Winner: Siobhan Horton, St Luke’s Hospice

The judges chose Siobhan because her commitment to educating professionals concerning people with dementia at the end of life, and her strategic approach to knowledge and skill development across disciplines is inspirational. This award will support Siobhan’s effort at a national level to influence the wider hospice movement, to better support people with dementia at the end of their lives.

‘Training people to work successfully with people living with dementia is hugely important and we should value all those who provide this valuable service. We urge everyone who knows of an exceptional member of staff or an initiative which has particularly helped people with dementia to put those people involved forward for the National Dementia Care Awards.

These annual Awards, organised by the Journal of Dementia Care, have been running now for six years and are the perfect way to reward and recognise outstanding people, teams, organisations and initiatives like the Best Dementia Training Initiative Award supported by Support In Dementia.’
